Report Creation Guide
Step-by-step walkthrough for creating radiology reports with AI
Navigate to the Worklist and click on the study you want to report. The report creation page opens with patient info and study details pre-filled.
Tip: You can also access studies from the Outpatient Worklist — the reporting interface is the same.
Patient demographics, referring physician, study type, reason for study, and special instructions are pulled automatically from the order. Check them for accuracy.
Handy buttons:
- Copy to Relevant Findings — appears next to Special Instructions. One click sends the text to your findings box.
- Document Communication — appears next to the Referring Physician. Use it to note that you discussed findings with them.
Type or dictate your observations into the Relevant Findings box in the AI panel. This is the input the AI uses to generate your report.
Don't worry about typos, abbreviations, or messy formatting — the AI cleans everything up.
Typing
- Direct text entry
- Copy-paste from notes
- Use abbreviations freely
Voice Dictation
- In the AI panel only: Medical dictation (Google) or Live dictation — Google (general)
- Medical: clinical terminology; record then transcribe
- General live: everyday speech; text appears in chunks while you speak
- Say "period", "comma", "next line" (especially with Medical)
Example — what you say vs. what AI produces:
Input: "Big heart, fluid in chest, no broken ribs"
AI Output: "Mild cardiomegaly, bilateral pleural effusions, no acute rib fractures."
Below the Relevant Findings box, you'll see preset buttons for common findings based on the exam type. One tap adds the text to your findings.
Click the gear icon to customize which findings appear for each exam type.
Click Generate Full Report (or press Ctrl+Alt+G). The AI takes your findings and produces a structured report with Technique, Findings, and Impression sections.
Example:
Your Input: "CT chest with contrast. 45yo male, chest pain. No PE. Mild cardiomegaly. Small bilateral pleural effusions."
AI Output: Full structured report with PROCEDURE, TECHNIQUE, FINDINGS, and IMPRESSION sections.
Always review AI-generated content. The AI is a tool, not a replacement for clinical judgment. Verify accuracy and completeness before signing.
The generated report appears in the rich text editor. You can:
- Edit text directly in the editor (type or paste)
- Voice dictation for new findings stays in the AI panel — not in the Report Content box
- Check that findings support the impression
- Verify measurements, locations, and terminology
When the report is finalized, click Accept and Sign (or press Ctrl+Alt+Enter) to submit. Template bracket placeholders are automatically cleaned up before submission.
After submission, the system handles fax distribution to the appropriate sites automatically.
Templates
If you prefer starting from a structured template instead of generating from scratch, expand Template Options on the report page to load a pre-built template for the exam type.
- Preliminary vs Final — auto-selects based on report type
- Exam-specific — tailored to the imaging modality
- Personalized — uses your custom templates
Most users skip templates and let the AI generate the structure. Templates are there if you want a consistent starting format.
Voice Dictation Commands
The Medical dictation (Google) model supports spoken commands for formatting. Use these while dictating into Relevant Findings (general live dictation may interpret commands differently):
| Category | Commands |
| Punctuation | period comma question mark colon semicolon |
| Formatting | next paragraph next point next section new line |
| Structure | next problem next item next number |
| Text Control | caps scratch that |
| Medical Headings | impression findings physical exam current medications |
Don't stress about getting these right. The AI cleans up all formatting when it generates the report from your findings.
Best Practices
Efficiency
- Use voice for faster input
- Use abbreviations — AI expands them
- Start with key findings, let AI structure
- Learn the keyboard shortcuts
Quality
- Always review AI output
- Include relevant measurements
- Ensure findings support impression
- Note comparison with priors
Troubleshooting
- Voice not working? Check microphone permissions in your browser settings.
- AI generation slow? Large or complex findings take longer to process.
- Template not loading? Verify template settings and check that one exists for the exam type.
