Open studies from Fujifilm Synapse PACS directly in FLAIR RIS
What This Does
The FLAIR RIS — Synapse Integration browser extension (Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome) adds a FLAIR action while you work in Fujifilm Synapse PACS in the web browser (pages on *.fujifilmcloud.com). When you click it, FLAIR opens (or focuses) an existing tab and navigates to the correct report for the study you are viewing.
Web Synapse only. The extension does not run inside a standalone or thick-client PACS viewer. You must use Synapse through Edge or Chrome on the Fujifilm Cloud website. If you normally open studies only from a desktop app, use the web workflow for FLAIR integration.

- Worklist: toolbar button and context menu

How matching works
- Reads patient and study fields from the Synapse page
- Matches your study in the on-screen study list when possible
- Opens FLAIR with the best-matched study for reporting
Tip. In extension options, enter your FLAIR login (AVR username) so it matches how you sign in. The server URL defaults to the production Google Cloud app; you only need Advanced settings if IT gives you a different URL.
Requirements
- Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome
- Fujifilm Synapse PACS via the web — sign in through your organization’s Fujifilm Cloud Synapse Sign-On, then use worklist and viewer in the browser. The extension is only active on
*.fujifilmcloud.com.
- A FLAIR RIS account and the URL your site uses (cloud or local)
- Permission to install extensions (or IT deployment for your organization)

The signin= value may be organization-specific; ask IT for the correct URL if this one does not apply.
Getting the extension
Install from the Chrome Web Store or Microsoft Edge Add-ons (recommended)
This extension is intended to be published to the Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons so you can install it like any other extension: open the store, find FLAIR RIS — Synapse Integration (or use a direct link from your IT team), then click Add to Chrome / Get.
Store approval. Both Google and Microsoft review each submission before it appears in the store. That usually takes several business days and can take longer if the listing needs changes. Your organization will share store links when the listing is live.
When you install from the store, you do not need Developer mode and you do not need to unzip any files.
Until the store listing is available, or if IT gives you a downloaded package instead of a store link, use the manual install steps in the next section.
Manual install (interim)
Install from a ZIP on your computer
Use this path when your administrator sends you a .zip file, shares an internal download, or the store listing is not ready yet. The same steps apply if IT gives you an already-extracted folder instead of a ZIP: skip the extract steps and jump to opening the extensions page.
Download from FLAIR (cloud deployment). Your FLAIR site serves the same package the team submits to the app stores. While logged into FLAIR (or from a page on your RIS that links here), use the button below so you always get the version that matches your server deployment.
Direct URL: /downloads/synapse-flair-ris-extension.zip (opens as a file download in your browser).
Developer mode is required. For this manual method, Chrome and Edge require Developer mode to be turned on before Load unpacked is available. That is the normal way browsers allow a downloaded extension folder to load. It does not weaken your whole PC; it only enables loading unpacked extensions.
Windows — Microsoft Edge
- Download the ZIP using the button above (or from your IT instructions).
- Right-click the ZIP → Extract All… → pick a folder (e.g. Downloads) → Extract.
- Open the extracted folder. Confirm
manifest.json is directly inside it (not buried in another sub-folder).
- In Edge’s address bar type
edge://extensions and press Enter.
- Turn Developer mode On (toggle on the left side).
- Click Load unpacked → select the folder containing
manifest.json.
- The FLAIR RIS card appears. Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar and pin it for easy access to options.
Windows — Google Chrome
- Download and extract the ZIP (same as above).
- In Chrome’s address bar type
chrome://extensions and press Enter.
- Turn Developer mode On (toggle top-right).
- Click Load unpacked → select the folder containing
manifest.json.
- The FLAIR RIS card appears. Click the puzzle-piece icon and pin it.
macOS — Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge
- Download the ZIP using the button above.
- Double-click the ZIP in Finder — macOS extracts it automatically into a folder.
- Open that folder in Finder. Confirm
manifest.json is directly inside it.
- In Chrome: address bar →
chrome://extensions. In Edge: edge://extensions. Press Enter.
- Turn Developer mode On (Chrome: top-right toggle; Edge: left-side toggle).
- Click Load unpacked → in the file picker navigate to and select the extracted folder (the one with
manifest.json).
- The FLAIR RIS card appears. Pin it via the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar.
IT-managed PCs. Your hospital may later install the same extension from the store (or by policy) without Developer mode. Manual ZIP install is mainly for the rollout period or internal testing.
If something goes wrong
- Load unpacked is missing or grayed out → Developer mode is off; turn it on and refresh the page.
- Browser says the manifest is invalid → You picked the wrong folder (or the ZIP was incomplete). The folder you select must contain
manifest.json at the top level.
- You tried to point at the
.zip file → Extract the ZIP first, then select the folder.
Extension Settings
Open settings by clicking the FLAIR extension icon in the browser toolbar (next to the address bar). You can also use Extension options from the extensions page (chrome://extensions or edge://extensions).

Session. You should already be logged into FLAIR in a normal browser tab before using the extension. The extension navigates that tab; it does not log you in by itself.
Using the Extension
From the worklist
Select a study row, then use the FLAIR toolbar button, right-click Open in FLAIR, or press Ctrl+Shift+F.
From the study viewer
After you open a study, use the FLAIR button on the viewer toolbar (near Open Report and PowerJacket). The same shortcut works when the viewer window is focused.
Viewer popup. If Synapse opens the viewer in a separate window without an address bar, you can still attach DevTools via edge://inspect for troubleshooting; radiologists normally do not need this.
What Happens When You Click FLAIR
- The extension reads study identifiers from the page (for example patient MRN, accession, procedure text).
- It tries to match the correct line in the Synapse study list when that list is visible.
- It opens or focuses your FLAIR tab and requests the report page for that study.
- If FLAIR finds the study, you land on report creation for that exam.
Technical. The browser navigates to a FLAIR URL such as /pacs-launch?... with study parameters. FLAIR then redirects to /report-create.html?istudy_request_id=... when the study is found. No separate “push” message is sent back to the extension beyond normal web navigation.
Troubleshooting
FLAIR shows “no session” or cannot find the study
- Log into FLAIR in a regular tab first
- Confirm AVR/FLAIR username in extension options
- Confirm the study exists on your FLAIR worklist
Button missing in the viewer
- Reload the Synapse page after installing the extension
- Confirm you are in web Synapse (browser URL on
fujifilmcloud.com), not a desktop-only viewer
- Sign in via your Fujifilm Cloud Synapse Sign-On (see Requirements for an example URL)
Wrong study opens
- Ensure the highlighted study row matches the exam you want
- Check that multiple exams for the same patient are distinguished in the list
Local testing
- Set FLAIR Server URL to
http://localhost:8000 (or your dev port)
- Run the FLAIR server locally and log in before testing
